Massachusetts has enacted significant updates to the Zoning Act (M.G.L. c. 40A), bringing important changes to how zoning approvals, permit extensions, residential variances, and certain development rights are handled across the Commonwealth.
These changes took effect immediately and could have a meaningful impact on municipal officials, property owners, developers, builders, and design professionals.

Jason R. Talerman is a municipal attorney with nearly two decades of experience representing Massachusetts cities and towns. His practice focuses on municipal law, land use, zoning, environmental law, affordable housing, and litigation. He serves as primary counsel to several municipalities and regularly represents municipal clients before state agencies and Massachusetts courts.
Jay also serves as Town Moderator in Norfolk and has extensive firsthand experience in local government, having served on numerous municipal boards and committees.
